Our staff of young Canadian journalists is devoted to sharing unique stories and prioritizing marginalized voices. As we continue to grow, our publication is seeking new volunteer members to join our team.
We are looking for young journalists over the age of 18, and based anywhere in Canada, to fill these digital positions. While there are some basic skills required for each role, there is also room for growth. Even if you are unsure you qualify for a position, or have related but not direct experience in any given area, we strongly encourage you to apply.
We are committed to supporting a more equitable media industry in Canada. Applicants who are Indigenous, Black, people of colour, LGBTQ2S+, or who have a disability are encouraged to apply. If you would like, please indicate that you are a part of one or more equity-seeking groups in your cover letter.
We are looking for 2-3 ambitious writers who are interested in contributing at least 2 articles per month to The Pigeon. Working under our internal content editor, you will research and write long-form content.
Do you have an eye for grammar and a love for style? We are looking for 2 copy editors to proofread content before it’s published. Working under our editors, you will help to edit 3 long-form articles per week.
The photos editor will work alongside the art director and managing editor to plan and execute visuals for The Pigeon’s written content. They will act as both a photographer and leader on our photo contributors team.
We are looking for a self-identifying LGBTQ2S+ applicant to co-host a monthly podcast about community news and stories. If you are comfortable with nuanced and complex discussions of LGBTQ2S+ issues, and are interested in broadcasting, this is the role for you.
We are looking for an organized individual to join our existing podcasting team in an administrative capacity. Liaising with the managing editor, you will oversee the wider aspects of podcast creation and promotion as we record and release two podcast episodes per month.
We are looking for someone with audio editing knowledge to edit two podcast episodes per month and assist podcast hosts with recording, while working under the podcast producer. If you have a good understanding of audio editing and organization, we want you onboard.
About The Pigeon
The Pigeon is your source of in-depth, long-form reporting about Canada-wide topics. Our staff of young Canadian journalists is devoted to sharing unique stories and prioritizing marginalized voices. We want to hear from underrepresented, inexperienced, and overenthusiastic journalists across Canada.
The Pigeon was launched in July 2020 by a group of Canadian student journalists and graduates. We saw an opportunity to create positive change in the Canadian media landscape by bringing in-depth stories to our readers and giving new journalists the chance to learn what it’s like to pitch to a publication.
